Tamara completed her dietetic qualifications with a Masters of Nutrition and Dietetics at Griffith University, following a Bachelor of Health Sciences majoring in Nutrition and Exercise Science at Deakin University in Victoria. As an avid researcher and lifelong learner, journal articles and textbooks are part of everyday reading for Tamara who enjoys the challenges of working in health and nutrition, where peoples needs and the food environment is constantly changing.
Since graduating, Tamara has worked within Gold Coast Health as a Community Dietitian seeing clients for a range of conditions including weight management, chronic diseases, malnutrition, gastrointestinal diseases, pregnancy and eating disorders. She has recently started working privately, specialising in the area of disordered eating recovery.
Tamara enjoys assisting clients recovering from an eating disorder to resume normal, healthy eating using the “RAVES” framework and later on, developing skills for intuitive eating. For people seeking assistance with weight concerns Tamara provides individualised advice using evidence-based medical nutritional therapy combined with a non-dieting approach. Tamara has completed further study and professional development in this area and provides mentoring to novice dietitians entering the field.
Outside of her work as a Dietitian, food maintains a large aspect of Tamara’s life where she loves cooking, baking and enjoying a weekend BBQ. As an environmentalist and hippy at heart the weekends are spent at markets, op shops, in the garden, hiking some of the Gold Coasts beautiful national parks and enjoying pilates and yoga classes.
