I am originally from Scotland where I obtained my Social Work degree and worked in the field of children and families for 10 years before moving to New Zealand. In NZ I worked in mental health for 11 years, obtaining a Post Graduate Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy at Massey University. In 2018 I moved to Queensland where I have worked in a Fostering Agency and then adult mental health.

I enjoy working with people of all ages, particularly with adolescents and young adults. I am a kind, genuine person and enjoy being able to help people move forward and overcome persistent difficulties that are causing them to feel “stuck” in life. I use a person-centred, motivational, empathic approach and have experience in working with adults and adolescents exposed to domestic violence and those feeling powerless in their lives. I enjoy working with people who want to overcome anxiety, depression, sleep difficulties, addictions, anger and inter-personal issues. CBT is an effective, efficient way of overcoming difficulties. Feedback from previous clients is that engaging in this type of therapy has helped turn their lives around

I have four adult children and three grand-children and have personal experience of the difficulties of parenting in a step-family environment. I love the outdoors and like to swim, cycle and play tennis. I believe humour is a great tonic and when appropriate this is embraced in the therapeutic alliance.
