Karen Murphy is a registered clinical psychologist and completed her studies at the University of Waikato in Hamilton, New Zealand. She earned a Bachelor of Social Sciences (First Class Hons. Psychology), a Master of Social Sciences (Hons. Psychology) and a Postgraduate Diploma in Psychology (Clinical).
Karen interned in a busy city psychology practice and a rural community mental health team in New Zealand. Since registration two years ago she has worked full time with adult and adolescent clients in a community based team in New Zealand. This gave Karen experience working with a wide range of complex presentations including individuals and families.
Karen is a trained Cognitive Behavioural Therapist but also integrates other evidence-based modalities into her practice to suit the needs of the client. These include Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Imagery Rescripting and Cognitive Processing Therapy. She has also completed extensive training in Solution Focused Brief Therapy as a transdiagnostic modality but also specifically for recovery from trauma and has a special interest in working with clients to overcome the impact of trauma. Karen is dedicated to understanding the individual needs of clients and their aspiration for change whilst acknowledging the context of their lives.
